England U-19s: Paige Williams

She Kicks, issue 17, October 2013 p.34

An interview with the Everton defender who impressed for England’s under-19s in Wales. Paige Williams calls it a breakthrough season, having aimed simply to be signed with the WSL team and instead starting recent games against senior internationals. She favoured centre midfield as a child but was moved to left back at under-17 level and loved it. She credits Everton’s well organised Centre of Excellence with teaching players to get the ball and play from a young age, and with producing good people as well as players. She calls the Euros the best experience of her life, still replays the final daily and found conceding so late devastating. Named in UEFA’s emerging talents alongside two Everton team-mates, she explains her penalty record and the 80mph spot kick against Finland.
