England’s Young Guns

Catherine Etoe interviews three of the five squad members yet to reach a senior international tournament. Birmingham City defender Dunia Susi, 23 and on 13 caps, describes Hope Powell ringing at half past nine in the morning to say she had made the 21, screaming with excitement and telling her older brother first, and recalls a teacher at 12 showing her a She Kicks picture of Faye White and saying it was her future. Arsenal forward Ellen White, 22 and on 14 caps, offers her work ethic and pressing, gets goosebumps talking about the build-up and German interest, and jokes she will not be kissing her boots as Kelly Smith did. Lincoln Ladies defender Sophie Bradley, at 21 the squad’s youngest on five caps, calls it the highlight of her career.
