England 1-2 Germany, Wembley Stadium, 9 November 2019 (poster)
She Kicks, issue 58, January 2020 pp.36–37
A two-page poster of the moment women’s football in England changed scale: 77,768 inside Wembley for England against Germany on 9 November 2019, a record attendance for an England women’s match. The image is shot from behind the goal with the stadium screen carrying the number, the tiers packed to the roof, and play continuing in the foreground – the crowd, not the football, is the subject. Germany won 1-2, but the scoreline is incidental to what the magazine is marking, and the attendance recurs throughout this issue: in the editor’s letter, in Kerys Harrop’s and Karen Bardsley’s decade reflections, and in Casey Stoney’s and Emma Hayes’s lists of milestones. It is the visual anchor of She Kicks’s decade-review issue.
