Interview

Ellen for England (Ellen White)

She Kicks, issue 2, April 2010 p.26

Tony Leighton interviews Leeds Carnegie striker Ellen White, 20, after a goalscoring senior England debut as a substitute in the 3-0 World Cup qualifying win over Austria. Hope Powell praises her finishing, pace, aggression and bravery; club manager Rick Passmoor calls her as focused and driven as any professional. White describes never fearing for her career after the ACL injury that cost her the 2008 Under-20 World Cup, returning after eight months, then passing 20 goals in her first full season, including two in the Premier League Cup final win over Everton. She was devastated when Leeds withdrew their Super League bid just before that final, accepts a parting of the ways is coming, and wants to play in the new league. She also reflects on completing a sports science degree at the Loughborough National Player Development Centre, whose days are numbered.
