Cyprus Cup 2012 — England: Casey Stoney — 100th Cap

She Kicks, issue SK07, April 2012 p.8

Catherine Etoe marks England vice-captain Casey Stoney reaching a century of caps at the Cyprus Cup, joining a list headed by Gill Coultard on 119, Rachel Yankey on 117, Kelly Smith on 111 and Fara Williams on 102. Stoney, a teenager on debut and now nearing 30, counts the Euro 2009 final and the 2007 and 2011 World Cups among her finest England moments, and calls the hundredth cap one of the biggest honours of her career. She says she would have laughed at the suggestion after sitting out Euro 2005 on the bench, and describes the work as partly psychological, admitting she did not initially believe she was good enough. She takes positives from a disappointing tournament, noting the experience gained by Jade Moore and Rachel Williams, and backs the injured Sophie Bradley to return stronger.
