Cushing For Greatness (Nick Cushing Coach Interview)

Five trophies in, Nick Cushing says his appetite is at an all-time high, with a Continental Cup already won, the WSL title slipping towards Arsenal and a last-32 Champions League exit still smarting. He sees his own 2014 side in a West Ham team growing through a first season, and expects a one-off game. Asked to compare the class of 2017 with 2019, he declines to rank them, noting Nikita Parris, Keira Walsh and Abbie McManus are now the experienced winners. Goalkeeping coach Chris Williams, not he, will choose between Karen Bardsley and Ellie Roebuck. A sidebar carries a long tribute to Emma Hayes’s 2018 season, which he calls the greatest achievement he has seen from any coach in the women’s game.
