Coach Kicks: Neil Redfearn (Liverpool FC Women)

Liverpool’s manager answers the Coach Kicks questions in the register of someone who has done a thousand games. His favourite session is possession-based and encourages freedom of expression and timing of movement. Asked whether his car and office are full of footballs and cones, he says no, but his mind is. His players, he insists, do not moan, because it is an honour to work for Liverpool Football Club. The latest lesson he has learned is how to open players’ minds to different positions and convince them it is right for them, which he thinks is largely a psychological job. He values Rinus Michels on team building for making complicated things make sense, and would pick a young Casey Stoney.
