Coach Kicks: Matt Beard
She Kicks, issue 40, April 2017 pp.51–52
Matt Beard answers the Coach Kicks questionnaire. His favourite session is transitional, usually five against five against five, with the outside players available to bounce off and the losing team pressing. Meeting Fara Williams, all that went through his mind was that she is a winner. He no longer fills a garage with training equipment as he did at Liverpool. He credits Michael Beale, whom he phoned when struggling in his first year at Boston, and rates Alex Ferguson’s book alongside a Guardiola biography and Jurgen Klopp’s session plans. He lets his players choose their own ethos, and advises new coaches that what matters is whether you put your head in the sand or embrace the challenge.
