Interview
Coach Kicks: Laura Harvey
She Kicks, issue 70, December 2021 pp.52–56
Chris Brookes’ Coach Kicks interview with the OL Reign head coach, back in the NWSL and at the club that became home nine years earlier, after a spell managing the United States Under-20s that the pandemic left grounded. Twice the league’s Coach of the Year, Harvey led Seattle sides that finished top in 2014 and 2015 only to lose both championship deciders to FC Kansas City. She took the reins in August after assisting Vlatko Andonovski at the Olympics, and is now head coach alone rather than general manager too, with Bill Predmore handling contracts. She reflects on how unprofessional Arsenal still were when she left, on the Seattle-Portland rivalry lacking the nastiness she grew up expecting, and on becoming comfortable and open about who she is since moving to the United States.
