Coach Kicks: Kelly Chambers (Reading FC Women)

The coaching questionnaire that runs alongside the main Reading interview. Kelly Chambers favours transitions and pressing work, and names Fara Williams as the player who has made the biggest impression on her – a decorated veteran who arrived still wanting to learn and took on an unfamiliar role without complaint. Asked what her players moan about most, she says the rules inside possession sessions, and suspects it is because they do not listen. She no longer joins in training, having three coaches from the top of the men’s game fit enough to do the running, and says the lesson she keeps relearning is that everything off the pitch matters as much as what happens on it. Her motivational lines are borrowed rather than invented, her verbal tic is ‘in the sense of’, and the player she would sign is Kelly Smith.
