She Kicks, issue 66, April 2021 p.3

Jen O’Neill opens on the multi-million-pound Sky Sports and BBC deal for the Barclays FA WSL, calling it a watershed and the moment the women’s game in England goes mainstream, while noting that kick-off times and other details are still unsettled. She hopes the league keeps its integrity as money and status arrive, and welcomes the homegrown quota coming in next season, under which WSL teams must include at least eight homegrown players in registered squads of 25. She points readers to the issue’s own investigation into what Brexit will mean for recruitment. On Team GB she says she does not envy Hege Riise the job of picking eighteen players plus four reserves. She closes with a salute to the coaches, referees and administrators who keep girls and women playing.
