City’s Sweet Success: #14inarow (Laura Montgomery on Glasgow City’s fourteenth title)

Glasgow City lost three players to Rangers in December, were beaten 5-0 by them before the winter break, and still won a fifteenth league title and a fourteenth in a row, holding off Celtic and Rangers to the final day. The club’s co-founder and chief executive says plenty had written them off given the investment around them and the scale of their own rebuild – fourteen of the squad had never won the SWPL before – and that the togetherness of a wholly reassembled team is what did it. Her favourite moments are Clare Shine returning to the field after a battle with mental illness, and Janine van Wyk’s impact after fighting back from injury. Hayley Lauder scored the club’s 3,000th goal.
