Christie’s Diary: Glasgow City v Valur
She Kicks, issue SK05, November 2011 p.29
Glasgow City midfielder Christie Murray keeps a diary across the club’s UEFA Women’s Champions League round-of-32 tie with Icelandic side Valur. The home leg at Petershill Park on 29 September draws more than 700 spectators, against the twenty or so the team normally expects, and finishes 1-1 after City lead early and concede from an indirect free-kick in their own box. The away section covers the trip to Iceland: a passport panic involving Danica Dalziel, a hotel pool and sauna session that ends with a player setting off an alarm, a prank on a team-mate’s toy monkey, and goalkeeper Lee playing piano in a hilltop museum. City win 3-0 to become the first Scottish club side to reach the last 16, an achievement Murray frames against their amateur status. Turbine Potsdam are next.
