Cardiff City LFC: Keeping High Standards (FAWPL)
She Kicks, issue SK19, February 2014 p.33
Wilf Frith talks to Cardiff City LFC first-team manager Jamie Sherwood, whose three senior teams are all top of their respective divisions: joint top of the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division with Gillingham, and leading the Midland Reserves and South Wales leagues. Sherwood credits changes to the senior structure as the catalyst, the return of Charlotte Preen and Fern Burrage as coaches, and investment in the development team, which he expects to maintain the club’s tradition of producing Welsh talent such as Jess Fishlock, Gwen Harries, Loren Dykes and Sophie Ingle. He says the ending of the National Division cost them none of the players they wanted to keep and that standards elsewhere have risen as clubs seek to prove they deserved a WSL place. His high was a first half against Tottenham; his disappointment the loss of Aimee Lea to a knee injury. He names Coventry City’s Hayley Ladd the best opponent faced.
