Captain’s Chat: Niamh Fahey
She Kicks, issue 71, February 2022 pp.60–61
An instalment of Captain’s Chat with the Liverpool captain, a three-time FA WSL champion who wore the club’s shirt as a youngster in Galway in the 1990s and welcomed the armband when it came last season. Fahey describes herself as vocal, committed, passionate and selfless, and credits captains she has played under, Jayne Ludlow and Katie Chapman at club level and Ciara Grant and Emma Byrne with Ireland, while insisting she puts her own personality on the role. She captained all her underage Gaelic football teams. She says being a good role model on and off the pitch matters most, admits she can be a bit fiery and is working on how she delivers messages, and describes the captain as the bridge between players and staff. Her advice is simply to be authentic.
