Captain Fantastical (She Reads: Leah Williamson)

Arsenal and England captain Leah Williamson discusses The Wonder Team and the Rainforest Rescue, the third children’s book she has co-written with her cousin Jordan Glover, this time exploring conservation, the Black Mambas anti-poaching unit and Jane Goodall’s legacy. The pair reflect on their close upbringing in Milton Keynes, their collaborative writing process, and Williamson’s love of fiction as a childhood escape. Williamson speaks candidly about wanting to be known as more than a footballer, the perspective her ACL injury gave her, and how her family always makes space to celebrate milestones. She reveals Lia Wälti is eager to read the series, and that she’d time-travel to the 1960s for the music, taking Keira Walsh along for company.
