Brighton Going Gurr’eat Guns: Charlotte Gurr interview (Southern Division leaders)
She Kicks, issue 31, November 2015 p.50
Wilf Frith speaks to Brighton’s former England youth international Charlotte Gurr after Albion, leaders of the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division, dropped just two points and conceded only two goals in their opening eight games. Gurr credits hard pre-season and weekly work at getting tight and together defensively, calling the record a credit to the whole team, coaches and support staff, and stressing the importance of making opponents earn their goals rather than giving them away. She describes conceding for the first time against C&K Basildon as a blessing in disguise that released the pressure of the clean-sheet run, after which Brighton relaxed and won 6-1. Coventry, strengthened by ex-WSL1 signing Cristina Torkildsen, were her hardest game so far. Gurr says promotion is everything given the club’s full backing and facilities. An FAWPL Hotshots sidebar lists leading scorers by division.
