The magazine’s recurring slot for young players features two who share a taste for bananas after matches. Ellie Hawcroft, 14, known as El, Skip or the Girl Pele, captains Redfearns JFC boys and South Yorkshire and also plays for Dearne and District Ladies, supporting Barnsley. She recalls opponents laughing that a team with two girls would be easy before she scored a hat-trick and team-mate Chloe added two, and admits a guilty pleasure of eight pairs of boots, all still worn. Millie Underwood, 8, known as Mills, keeps goal for Portsmouth Ladies Under-9s and follows both Portsmouth and Reading, choosing goalkeeping because she likes keeping a clean sheet to help her team win, and naming Kirsty Magee, Fran Kirby, Charley Wilson and Rhia Cox as heroes.
