Born Kicking: Grace Lawther

She Kicks, issue 44, November 2017 p.37

Grace Lawther is eleven, plays in defence for Boroughmuir Thistle Under-11s and for her school, and supports Raith Rovers and Scotland – the same young fan photographed in the previous issue collecting selfies in the Netherlands. She likes defending because you stop people scoring and help your team win, would meet Kim Little, would play alongside Ifeoma Dieke on the grounds that they share a position, and names Gemma Fay as a hero for more than two hundred caps. Her team has a cool-down song after every match that makes little sense and consists largely of the word lemons. Invited to ask herself a question, she nominates two: going to the Euros, and being Raith Rovers mascot for a cup final they won.
