Born Kicking: Anna Draper
She Kicks, issue 46, March 2018 p.63
The Born Kicking junior-reader slot meets thirteen-year-old goalkeeper Anna Draper, who plays for the Aston Villa Under-14 Girls’ Regional Talent Club and supports Villa’s women’s and men’s teams. Right-footed but comfortable with both, she loves keeping goal because it makes her a game-changer, relishing the challenge of preventing goals and creating chances for team-mates. Having met Karen Bardsley at the 2017 Women’s FA Cup Final, she would also like to meet Carly Telford, Siobhan Chamberlain and Sir Bobby Charlton. Draper describes herself as motivated, supportive, determined, responsible and conscientious, recalls a yellow kit turned green by wet blue pitch paint that took six washes, and always puts her left glove on first. Her heroine is Karen Carney and her inspiration her long-standing goalkeeper coach, Andy.
