Bonner Is Bouncing
She Kicks, issue 24, November 2014 pp.22–23
Liverpool captain Gemma Bonner calls the climax surreal and argues that needing a perfect storm of results actually worked in her side’s favour, because there was absolutely no pressure on them. The plan had been to stay ignorant of the other scores, but vocal supporters made that impossible and the players knew all along. At half-time the results were going their way while their own game remained goalless, so a change of formation to something more attacking paid off in a 3-0 win that she rates among their best football of the season. What followed was a nervous wait for the other matches to finish, every emotion compressed into a few minutes, until the crowd began celebrating and the players reacted off them.
