Belle Strikes Back (Courtney Sweetman-Kirk interview)

Doncaster Rovers Belles striker Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, the 2015 WSL 2 top scorer and player of the season, describes recovering from a comminuted fracture of the fibula that needed surgery, screws and plates. She trained through the winter and now feels she has had about three pre-seasons, but is back to normal. Watching the side struggle was hard because she is not a good spectator and was kicking every ball; the season was compounded by Jess Sigsworth’s cruciate injury. She never feared for her career – the medical team held her back because she wanted to run before she could walk – and says the injury gave her perspective that playing will not last forever.
