Around The Counties: Surrey FA – Mums’ league (South West London Primary School League)

She Kicks, issue 31, November 2015 p.55

The Around The Counties slot, carried under a Bluefin Sport sponsorship strap, reports Surrey FA’s South West London Primary School League, a competition with a unique concept: its eight teams are made up entirely of mums from local primary schools in Richmond and Merton, each team representing a school. Launched in the 2014/15 season and drawing more than 60 players, the league has gone from strength to strength since its inaugural campaign. Football experience varies widely, with both experienced and beginner players in every team, and any interested player is warmly welcomed into a deliberately friendly environment whose objective is fun alongside teamwork, fitness and the social side of the game. Matches take place at a monthly tournament at a central venue with squads of eight or nine. Surrey FA recently ran a group session for over 40 players with county-qualified coaches, and Football Development Officer Jon Burr seeks referees and new players.
