Around The Counties: Somerset girls’ and women’s football development
She Kicks, issue 30, October 2015 p.60
The Around the Counties slot, sponsored by Bluefin Sport, reports on girls’ and women’s football in Somerset, where 83 girls’ teams play in the Somerset Girls League alongside 41 ladies teams across the county. The Somerset FA Advanced Coaching Centre offers talented players from Under-10 to Under-16 access to further support and coaching to help them progress through the elite player pathway. Projects delivered with the FA, the Youth Sport Trust, Yeovil Town Ladies and Continental Tyres have created opportunities for over 360 girls, including an FA Girls Festival and a B Inspired hub using batack boards and speed cages, FA Skills coaches and B Inspired ambassadors. The county’s Football Futures provision holds over 60 active female volunteers, more than a third of the programme.
