Around the Counties: Liverpudlians Love Football (Liverpool County FA)
She Kicks, issue 44, November 2017 p.60
Liverpool County FA sets out a season in which two hundred female teams affiliated, from Under-7s to adults and including disability sides – the highest number the county has recorded. Behind it sits GBP 43,500 of Grow the Game funding placed with fifteen clubs to create twenty-nine new teams, and a set of interventions built on research rather than assumption: girls could play on Saturdays but not Sundays, so a Hightown Girls’ League was created that now runs forty-five teams every Sunday; girls wanted more football at school, so a programme with School Games Organisers reached 434 teams and nearly four thousand players in its first year. Recreational sessions have brought mothers into the game, and a first female-only Level 2 course has run.
