Interview
Anna Signeul’s Scots Intent
She Kicks, issue 1, December 2009 p.15
Scotland head coach Anna Signeul talks to news editor Wilf Frith about a side she believes is progressing steadily, having been unlucky to lose a Euro play-off to Russia and taken good results against Greece and Georgia. She outlines the plan for 2010 – a January training camp, then the Cyprus Cup alongside England and Holland – and sets the target of winning a World Cup qualifying group led by Denmark, who have beaten Scotland three times in 18 months. Signeul singles out Kim Little, praises Glasgow City defender Rachel Corsie’s rapid emergence from the Under-19s, and hopes Natalie Ross and Jennifer Beattie return. She welcomes summer football, given how Scotland struggle for winter facilities. As a member of Euro 2009’s Technical Study Group she reports rising quality, tactics and athleticism, and argues Europe deserves more than four and a half World Cup places. A spot-Anna photo gag closes the page.
