Amy Relishing Her New Career at Watford FC Thanks to UCFB (Amy O’Connor)
She Kicks, issue 42, July 2017 p.68
Amy O’Connor never wanted to play football but has made a career in it, moving from a UCFB degree to a business development role at Watford within months of graduating – a job the club created so as not to lose her after a match day hospitality stint. Her placements took in Millwall and the Football Association, and she wants eventually to be a club chief executive. She credits lecturers with industry experience and a subject she cared about with building her confidence. Her advice to other women is bracing rather than sentimental: do not think of yourself as a female in the football industry, because you would not frame it that way in any other, and if you work hard people will simply see a colleague.
