Amber’s All Go on Green (Goal Getter: Amber Barrett)

Chris Brookes meets Republic of Ireland prospect Amber Barrett, who set aside Gaelic football, a sport dear to her and her family, and then took the FAI Continental Tyres Women’s National League Player of the Year award and Golden Boot with Peamount United. Barrett says the recognition drives her on but that she would happily have swapped a good personal season for winning everything with Peamount, who finished second. She describes herself as always a goalscorer who has learned hold-up play, picks out a chip from outside the box against Galway as a favourite, and admits her team-mates have not forgiven a dab celebration. She credits Gaelic football for her movement and two-footedness, recalls nerves at her first senior Ireland camp meeting Stephanie Roche, and speaks warmly of the close-knit community in Milford, Donegal.
