Celia Okoyino da Mbabi completed a hat-trick two minutes into stoppage time after Yuki Nagasato had equalised on the stroke of full time. Japan won all three group games, beating the USA through Megumi Takase for their first regulation-time win over the Americans in 24 meetings, while Alex Morgan scored her first international hat-trick as the USA took third place.
