Match report
A Historic Match On The South Coast Of France: England 2-1 Scotland
She Kicks, issue 55, August 2019 pp.14–15
She Kicks marks the first World Cup meeting between England and Scotland with a quote-led spread from Nice on 9 June 2019. Shelley Kerr sets the scale of it beforehand by reaching back thirty years: her own first cap came against England in 1989, a 3-0 defeat, and the journey Scottish women’s football has made since is, she says, unbelievable, with the whole country captivated by qualification. Phil Neville asks only that his players express themselves and play with a smile. Afterwards Nikita Parris describes the penalty that brought her first World Cup goal as a moment she will remember for the rest of her life, and notes that her mother wore an England shirt for the first time. Keira Walsh is briefer, and hotter.
