General manager Helen Carver explains how Birmingham and West Midlands Police joined the FA Women’s Premier League after a treble-winning season built on grit, determination and teamwork, with seventeen wins and a draw. The side reached the Birmingham Cup quarter-final, beat TNS in the League Cup final and won the Police Sport UK Championships. Two promotions in four seasons is amazing, she says, but maintaining a police player base has been a massive challenge: Police Sports Club rules require a certain percentage of police staff in the team, so the club has had to drop the police badge to continue, a huge disappointment given their passion for representing the organisation. The club will keep what she calls an emergency services friendly mentality and the blue light in its heart.
