A City United For Woso! (Editor’s Letter)
She Kicks, issue 56, October 2019 p.3
Editor Jen O’Neill opens the first issue of the post-World Cup season and finds the promised legacy actually arriving. The opening weekend of the Barclays FA WSL brought record crowds, intense football and, she notes, what capitalising on a World Cup should look like, with every top-flight game live on the new FA Player app. She is careful to spread the credit down the pyramid, citing 500-plus crowds at Aston Villa and Durham in the Championship. The letter turns sombre in the middle: She Kicks has turned its logo blue for this issue in tribute to Sahar Khodayari, the 29-year-old Iranian supporter who died after trying to watch her team, and joins the call for FIFA to compel the Iranian FA to admit women to stadiums.
