Her Goal, issue 8, July 2026 pp.6–9

Manchester City completed a first league-and-cup double with a 4-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Wembley on 31 May, in front of 43,917. Brighton, in their first final, were the better side early on: Marisa Olislagers’ shot was cleared off the line by Alex Greenwood, and Fran Kirby was denied one-on-one by a superb Ayaka Yamashita intervention. City struck on 38 minutes when Khadija Shaw climbed above Chiamaka Nnadozie to head in Greenwood’s cross, and Greenwood curled a low free-kick past the Nigerian goalkeeper deep in first-half added time. Aoba Fujino made it three on 66 minutes and Vivianne Miedema headed a fourth from Kerstin Casparij’s cross. Retiring midfielder Laura Coombs came on for her final City appearance.
