15 Years Apart (Becky Easton)

An interview with the defender who won the FA WSL title with Liverpool in 2013, fifteen years after her previous league champion’s medal with Everton, and milked it as much as possible. The lifelong Liverpool supporter recalls scrapping for every point in that Everton title season and losing the Charity Shield to Arsenal on penalties at the old Wembley. She credits manager Matt Beard not only with signing quality players but with creating an environment in which a squad including seven overseas signings gelled quickly, training three or four times a week. She points to a 4-0 win at the Emirates and a 4-3 win at Bristol as turning points, and says she was more nervous than anyone. Liverpool retained the title in 2014 with Easton, then 40, still in the side.
