Newcastle United Women have secured the signing of Finland international goalkeeper Anna Tamminen following her departure from Hammarby IF after four years.

She made 116 appearances for Hammarby, helped them win the 2023 league and cup double as she was also rewarded with the Goalkeeper of the Year and Most Valuable Player of the Year awards.

Called up to the Finnish squad for the UEFA Women’s Euros this summer, she has made 11 appearances for her country.

Tamminen told newcastleunited.com: “It’s super exciting. When I heard about the project, I just felt like I wanted to be part of it.

“The ambitions that the club have is amazing. When you get the chance to experience something like this, you take it.”

Manager Becky Langley said: “Anna is a proven goalkeeper who has performed on the international stage and in the Champions League.

“She has the ability to build up play from the back, break lines and create opportunities. Anna fits the profile of goalkeeper that we have been looking for.”
