Alessia Russo scored a second-half brace as Arsenal Women came from behind to defeat Real Madrid 2-1 in the UWCL League Stage.

Caroline Weir volleyed Madrid into the lead just before half-time, but Arsenal hit back with two goals in a 14-minute spell to take all three points.

Russo headed in from a Chloe Kelly cross to level the score and then netted the winner after connecting with a Beth Mead corner.

The result places the Gunners eighth in the table after matchday four, with games to come at home to FC Twente and away to OH Leuven next month.

In Wednesday’s other late kick-offs, Paris FC beat ten-player Benfica 2-0, while Valerenga let a 2-0 lead slip to draw with St Polten.

Benfica’s Caroline Møller picked up her second caution after half an hour, with Maeline Mendy and Maëlle Garbino taking advantage.

Karina Sævik and Olaug Tvedten had Valerenga two goals up in 18 minutes, but Kess Elmore pulled one back just before halftime and Jennifer Klein’s penalty secured a point for St Polten.
