With Manchester City crowned Barclays WSL champions in midweek, they quickly face Chelsea, whose title they claimed, aiming to also relieve Sonia Bompastor’s side of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
Chelsea have made six WFA Cup finals from 2015 onwards, winning four of them, while Manchester City finished with two trophies from their three appearances.
Previous meetings of the semi-finalists this term saw Chelsea twice narrowly beat Manchester City but suffer a crushing 5-1 defeat away to them in the WSL.
Liverpool and Brighton have the chance for a first-ever season finale at Wembley Stadium.
Albion have never reached the final before, while the Reds managed it for three consecutive years up to 1996 (once as forerunners Knowsley United) but lost each time at various club stadiums and with nothing like the attendances of today.
Both their WSL meetings this term ended in draws, goalless at Brighton and 1-1 at Liverpool.
Saatchi Gallery exhibition
This weekend, the Saatchi Gallery, presents The Art of Possibility; an exhibition that invites visitors to rediscover the extraordinary cultural impacts of the men’s and women’s FA Cup competitions. The gallery also has a watch party showing the semi-final between Chelsea and Manchester City. Further information, including booking free tickets, can be found here.
