Southampton FC Women Come From Two Down to Beat Pompey

Southampton FC Women came from two down to beat Portsmouth 5-2 at Fratton Park and go third in Barclays WSL 2.

Crystal Palace 1-1 Sunderland
Durham 3-0 Nottingham Forest
Charlton Athletic 1-1 Sheffield United
Ipswich Town 0-4 Birmingham City
Newcastle United 2-2 Bristol City
Portsmouth 2-5 Southampton

Pompey took a 2-0 lead from corners, Annie Wilding heading the first and Georgie Freeland netting directly from the flag-kick. Abbie Ferguson was picked out by Megan Collett to get the Saints back in it, Michaela McAlonie made it 2-2 as Jess Simpson gave her the opportunity from her cross, Simpson getting the third herself from a corner and Ferguson making it 4-2 with her second goal. It was a double also for McAlonie, helped by Atlanta Primus on a break.

Durham struck Nottingham Forest three times on the break during the first quarter of the match, Poppy Pritchard setting up early goals for Mollie Lambert and Beth Hepple, Mariana Speckmaier with the third. The victory for Durham was their first in the last five games.

Sheffield United picked up a very good point at leaders Charlton, where Emma Taylor nodded them one up from a corner, but Jodie Hutton replied from a free kick on the hour.

Birmingham City moved within a point of the top team with victory at Ipswich. Chelsea Cornet headed home a Lucy Quinn corner, Océane Hurtré tapped in the second ten minutes after the break. Batcheba Louis made it 3-0, Martha Harris completed the scoring in added time, aided by Veatriki Sarri.

Newcastle United levelled late on to take a draw against Bristol City. Oona Sevenius scored for Newcastle in first-half stoppage time, City were level two minutes after the restart as Rio Hardy put away a delivery by Mari Ward. Hardy struck again with Vera Jones this time the provider. In the 89th minute, Lois Joel hit United level from outside the box.

Crystal Palace drew for the third successive match, after levelling against Sunderland. Katy Watson fired Sunderland ahead when left in space from a Natasha Fenton corner, Kirsty Howat soon levelled after being played through by Emma Watson.
