Athlone Town retained the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division title with two games to spare following a 4-1 victory away to Cork City.

Kayleigh Shine opened the scoring for Athlone after a corner was not cleared, getting the lose ball under control she shot through a crowded six-yard box and into the net.

Cork City goalkeeper Una Foyle kept the deficit to a single goal at half-time, as she denied Kelly Brady who had got through on goal.

Brady did double the lead before the hour mark, stabbing home a perfectly-weighted low cross from Roisin Molloy.

Five minutes later, Brady scored again with a clinical header from a Kellie Brennan cross before completing her hat-trick late on from the penalty spot.

In what has already been a memorable season with their debut in Europe ending with a Europa Cup defeat to Glasgow City, Athlone still have the Women’s FAI Cup to play for against Bohemians on Sunday 19 October at Tallaght Stadium.
