Nottingham Forest made it back-to-back away wins with victory over ten-player Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Maria Farrugia saw her early effort tipped onto the Forest crossbar by goalkeeper Emily Batty and Emily Syme had a close-range effort deflected over.

Bristol did make the breakthrough on 25 minutes, when Harley Bennett’s cross was headed home by Camila Saez.

But City were down to ten players by the break, with Sophie Ingle dismissed for a foul on Deanne Rose.

Freya Thomas got Forest level in the last 15 minutes when set up by Aimee Claypole and three minutes later they had turned the game around.

Amy Rodgers took aim from 25 yards out, the ball coming down off the bar and over the line off the back of goalkeeper Fran Bentley.

Mari Ward missed a golden opportunity to pull Bristol back level, shooting right across goal and wide, Vera Jones clipped the far post deep into added time.

Forest leapfrog Bristol into fourth place on goal-difference.

Late goals were exchanged, as Birmingham City came out on top against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Lucy Quinn scored from the spot for City before the hour mark, following a foul by Abbie Lafayette on Rebecca McKenna in the box.

With four minutes of the 90 left, Sheffield equalised on a breakaway as Joy Ralph netted with a chip from outside the box.

But in the first of five minutes of added time, Lily Crosthwaite restored City’s advantage with Katie Keane unable to gather a cross.

The result put City three points clear at the top, ahead of Sunday’s fixtures.
