Durham Women have signed Venezuelan international striker Mariana Speckmaier from Melbourne City for an undisclosed fee.

She has 13 caps and three goals for her country, after featuring at the recent Copa América Femenina.

Spells with Washington Spirit preceded and followed time at CSKA Moscow and Valur in Iceland, before heading to Australia and scoring ten goals in 21 appearances for Wellington Phoenix.

That form attracted the attention of Melbourne City, whom she would help to the A-League title and Asian Champions League final.

Speckmaier told durhamwfc.co.uk: “I’m super excited to get started.

“I think every player at one point has a dream of playing in England, so I’m glad that I get to do that.”
