Athlone Town, Glasgow City and Hibernian all lose UEFA Women’s Champions League 2nd Qualifying Round Semi-Finals, Hammarby edge through to set up Manchester United clash.

Athlone Town were defeated 3-1 after two quick-fire goals from Breidablik. A Madie Gibson corner got them level under pressure from Izzy Groves but Sam Smith restored the lead with her second of the match, before Berglind Thorvaldsdóttir struck from 25 yards for the Icelandic side. Athlone will play Crvena Zvezda for third place, after they lost 6-0 to FC Twente for whom Jill Roord scored twice.

Elisabeth Terland hit a hat-trick and Celin Bizet was also on target as Manchester United comfortably beat PSV Eindhoven 4-0. The Reds play Hammarby in the final, who edged Metalist 1925 Kharkiv during stoppage time of a nine-goal thriller.

Hibernian agonisingly lost out to Danish side Fortuna Hjørring in added time, after taking a 47th-minute lead through Rachel Boyle. Hibs will play Apollon in Saturday’s third-place match.

Glasgow City lost out to two second-half goals from Austria Wien, who wet ahead soon after the restart and secured the victory late on.
