Liverpool FC Women fans will be able to drink alcohol in the stadium from next season, as part of a WSL Football trial to offer supporters the choice to drink alcohol in the stands.

This will be at both St Helens Stadium and the three games already confirmed at Anfield.

Liverpool are one of 14 clubs taking part in this trial across the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Super League 2 for the 2025/26 season.

Unlike men’s football in the UK, the women’s professional game is not covered by the same legislation which prohibits the consumption of alcohol in view of the pitch

Last season an initial version of the trial took place across four Barclays WSL2 clubs – Birmingham City, Bristol City, Newcastle United and Southampton.

This ran across 19 league fixtures between January and May 2025 and involved over 51,000 supporters.

Following a successful evaluation across fans, clubs and matchday staff, 13 clubs across both divisions including Liverpool FC Women have signed up for the second phase of the pilot that will run throughout 2025/26 season.

From a club perspective, players and match officials noted no change to fan behaviour, while average expenditure by fans at stadiums, with regards to food and drink, increased across the fixtures, alongside a growth in attendances.

Liverpool FC has consulted with key stakeholders including official supporter groups and will continue to consult with the supporter’s board and wider fans to ensure a successful roll out of this trial.

Fans at both stadiums have the option to select tickets in the Family & Alcohol-Free Area should they prefer an alcohol-free environment whilst seated for the game. Alcohol will still be sold in the concourse kiosks of these areas.

Other WSL teams taking part are: Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, London City Lionesses, Manchester City and Manchester United, while in WSL2 those signed up are: Birmingham City, Bristol City, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, Sheffield United, Sunderland and Southampton.
