Sheffield United sign Charlie Devlin

Sheffield United sign attacking midfielder Charlie Devlin on a one-year deal after leaving Birmingham City at the end of last season.

Devlin joined Millwall to gain first team experience in 2017, scoring nine goals, and impressive performances led her to become one of the first members of the brand-new Manchester United squad in 2018, where she scored five goals in 16 games on the way to the first of her two promotions to the Barclays Women’s Super League.

She had a short spell at Charlton Athletic before a January switch to Leicester City eventually led to her second title and promotion, going on to play for the Foxes in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The midfielder then joined Birmingham City in 2022 and across two seasons made 37 appearances in the Barclays Women’s Championship for the Blues, scoring seven goals, before joining Rangers on loan last summer.

Devlin scored three goals in 10 league appearances before a shoulder injury curtailed her campaign in January, but is now back to full fitness.

Devlin said: “I’m really excited to be back in the league and help to try and get the club back to where I think it can be. I think the playing style will suit me a lot, I like the vision of the club and hopefully I just need to get going to help the team as much as possible.”

Head coach Ash Thompson said: “Charlie is a proven top player at this level over a number of seasons now at various clubs where she’s shown her technical proficiency, creative qualities and match-defining moments in front of goal. She is a player that I’m very excited to work with to bring out the very best in the kind of player that gets fans off their seats.”
