Durham Women have signed midfielder Amber Stobbs from local rivals Newcastle United where she was captain last season.

She helped Newcastle secure promotion to the second tier and earlier won the WSL 2 Spring Series title with Everton.

After a time with Washington Spirit in America, she joined Reading and went on to have spells at West Ham, Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace, Watford and Lewes.

Stobbs told durhamwfc.co.uk: “Durham are a powerhouse in the league, a very competitive team for years, and I’m really excited to be here.

“I think it suits. I was chatting to the club and the style of play and the bit that Durham have got about them, it suits me.”
