Miedema onto 99 goals for Netherlands, USA put four past Ireland Women

USA sent Ireland to a 4-0 defeat in the first of two friendly internationals, Vivienne Miedema moved onto 99 goals in 125 games for the Netherlands with a double against Finland.

Ireland goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan had already denied Alyssa Thompson and Claire Hutton, before Avery Paterson gave the US the lead in the 18th minute, heading home from a Rose Lavelle cross.

The hosts struck three times in 14 second-half minutes, Sam Coffey exchanging passes with Thompson before netting the first of the trio.

Ally Sentnor set up Lavelle to make it 3-0 and Lilly Reale sent Thompson on her way to fire home.

Vivienne Miedema got both goals for the Netherlands against Finland in the first half-hour, Danielle van de Donk playing a part in both. Oona Siren pulled back a stoppage-time consolation for the Finns.

Joe Montemurro’s Australia were 3-0 winners over Slovenia, Emily Gielnik’s third-minute goal the difference between the sides until late effort by Holly McNamara and Hayley Raso.

Sweden were 2-o winners over Norway, Stina Blackstenius’s opener added to close to half time by Filippa Angeldahl.

Riola Xhemali’s goal for Switzerland was cancelled out by Barbora Polcarova of Czechia but the Swiss ran out 4-1 victors after Geraldine Reuteler, Smila Vallotto and Svenja Folmi all netted.

Belgium beat Greece 2-0, Tessa Wullaert first on the scoresheet and Jill Janssens completing the scoring three minutes after the interval.

London City Lionesses’ Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah scored as Ghana came from behind to beat Benin 4-2. Ghana also beat Malawi after going behind, Doris Boaduwaa with all their goals in a 3-1 result.

Portugal played out a goalless draw with Nigeria.
