Manchester United’s Melvine Malard hit a hat-trick as France sank Belgium 5-0 on Friday ahead of the UEFA Women’s Championship starting 2 July.

The post had denied Malard a very early goal but it was Everton’s Kelly Gago who opened the scoring in the 17th minute.

Malard doubled the advantage via an upright close to half time and PSG’s Sakina Karchaoui made it 3-0 just before the hour mark.

Although frustrated by the offside flag, two goals in the last dozen minutes by Malard completed her first treble for the national team in front of nearly 14,000 fans in Valenciennes.

Les Bleues finish match preparations against Brazil on Friday 27 July, the Red Flames meet Greece the day before.

While France kick-off their EURO finals against England on 5 July, Belgium begin their group games two days earlier against Italy.
