Spain come from behind to defeat Lionesses

Spain beat England 2-1 in a UEFA Women’s Nations League group decider to advance to the semi-finals.

Hannah Hampton prevented Esther Gonzalez giving Spain a very early lead and it was England who got the opener midway through the half.

Alessia Russo was played in behind by Keira Walsh to slot past goalkeeper Cata Coll, leaving the hosts complaining about a potential foul on Salma Parralluelo earlier in the build up.

Spain were to be frustrated with the officials again before the break, as Niamh Charles was not penalised for a handball in the box.

Claudia Pina came off the bench approaching the hour mark and took little time in slotting home the equaliser.

With Spain now dominating the game, ten minutes later Pina had turned it around with a clinical strike from outside the box going in off the post.
