Australia beat Argentina 2-0 in the first of a double header in Melbourne, watched by a crowd of 43,000.

Kahli Johnson gave Australia an interval lead on her debut, heading home a cross from Charli Grant. Kaitlyn Torpey doubled the advantage after the hour mark, when her cross from the edge of the box beat everyone and flew into the net.

Brazil beat Japan 3-1 despite Kerolin’s early penalty miss. Dudinha scored twice and Kerolin did later find the net, before Japan’s Fuka Nagano also failed from the spot but Kiko Seike got a late consolation.

Mexico let a two-goal lead slip against Uruguay, Myra Delgadillo and Jasmine Casarez on target before Stephanie Lacoste and Pamela Gonzalez replied to force a draw.

Colombia’s Cataline Usme got the only goal in the victory over South Korea before the half-hour mark. Six minutes later, the opportunity to extend the lead from the penalty spoit was missed.

Ivory Coast twice trailed by two goals to Ghana but ended up with a 3-3 draw, Ines Konan netting her second of the match with 10 minutes left.

Senegal edged Liberia with a 70th-minute penalty by Hapsatou Diallo, their opponents having Miatta Morris dismissed shortly afterwards.
