
Arsenal finished runners-up in the Barclays Women’s Super League after a 4-3 final-day win over Manchester United.

Arsenal were ahead inside just two minutes against Manchester United, Chloe Kelly finishing after a fumble by goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce. Grace Clinton saw her 25-yard strike tipped over by Manuela Zinsberger but from the resulting corner, Maya le Tissier won the header and Ella Toone nodded home the equaliser. The hosts stormed into a 4-1 lead after the restart, Mariona Caldentey’s penalty followed by goals from Frida Leonhardsen Maanum and Kim Little. Elisabeth Terland replied with a deflected effort and Le Tissier converted from the spot but United were left in third with an extra round of the UWCL to get through next term.

Champions Chelsea ended unbeaten and top by 12 points with a league record of 60, after a very late breakaway goal beat Liverpool. Aggie Beever-Jones scored in added time when played through by Ashley Lawrence.

Fourth-placed Manchester City fell behind to relegated Crystal Palace from Ashleigh Weerden’s early effort, Kerolin Nicoli did not take long to level but Mille Gejl restored the advantage by half time. City struck twice in four minutes through Jill Roord and Rebecca Knaak from a Lauren Hemp corner, Aoba Fujino set up Kerolin to double her tally, later crossing for Knaak to also score her second.

Ebony Salmon soon fired Aston Villa in front against Brighton from outside the box, Rachel Daly making it 2-0 late in the first half. Maz Pacheco added a third and Nikita Parris a late consolation for the Seagulls, as Villa took sixth spot on goal-differece from Liverpool.
Veatriki Sarri buried a free kick for Everton at home to Tottenham Hotspur, whose Drew Spence got them back on level terms. While the Toffees took eighth position, Spurs slipped to eleventh but 10 points off the bottom.
Leicester City’s Janice Cayman found the top corner early on against West Ham, Hannah Cain doubled the lead from close range before the break. Three goals during a six-minute spell saw Viviane Asseyi net twice for the Hammers with a header and free kick, Cain getting her second in-between from Asmita Ale’s through ball. Sam Tierney made it 4-2 from outside the box, helping the Foxes finish tenth on goal-difference.
